Launch of the new Students' Union building
The Launch of the new Students’ Union building will be celebrated on Friday 15th January 2010 after an £11 million renovation over the past 18 months.
For over 30 years, Warwick students and staff have enjoyed the benefits of the Students’ Union. Built in 1975 for the current student population, a mere 2,000, the Students' Union was ill-equipped to deal with today's 20,000 students.
As Warwick continues to grow and move forward with its Vision 2015 strategy, the Union needed to develop to accommodate and address the needs of our ever expanding student population. With this in mind, the rebuild project has modernised the Union and made it a vibrant, cosmopolitan and contemporary hub of activity in keeping with the University's proud vision of the future.
The rebuild has seen extensive improvements, including new retail outlets and entertainment and social spaces:
The Terrace Bar offers a stylish, cool, contemporary new socialising space. Overlooking the Piazza at the front of the striking new SU, the bar will offer the perfect place to meet for coffee or cocktails
The Bread Oven, a bespoke sandwich bar and bakery returns in new surroundings and will be serving freshly baked breads with your choice of fillings from a vast deli
Curiositea, a vintage tea shop offers a variety of traditional English refreshments, from crumpets and jam to ethically sourced teas in a cool modern environment
King Edwards Potato Emporium, based in the very heart of the new Union Atrium, will serve jacket potatoes with a variety of hot and cold fillings every weekday lunchtime
The Copper Rooms, a four roomed multi-purpose venue providing a performance area; a nightclub venue for DJs and club nights; a chill-out area alongside the new 
club; and 'Rouge' a feature bar with everyone's favourite beverages
The Dirty Duck, a modern twist on the traditional pub, serving real, freshly cooked, value-for-money food including daily carveries
The Launch Event is being held on 15th January with most of the activity taking place in and around the atrium in the new building. The evening will include speeches from the Vice Chancellor Professor Nigel Thrift and former Students' Union President Kat Stark as well as performances from various student societies.
