Warwick Alumnus appointed Bank of England Chief Economist
Warwick Alumnus Spencer Dale has been appointed as the Bank of England’s Chief Economist.
He is currently on secondment to the US Federal Reserve in Washington, but will replace Charles Bean on July 1st as Executive Director, Monetary Analysis and Statistics, and Chief Economist.
Mervyn King, Governor of the Bank of England, says: “I am extremely pleased that the Bank has been able to promote Spencer Dale from the immensely talented pool of economists we have within the Bank. Mr Dale’s two year secondment to the US Federal Reserve will also bring valuable international experience to the MPC.”
Dale received his MSc in Economics from the University of Warwick in 1989, and joined the Bank of England in the same year. Within the Bank of England, Dale’s established career includes working as a senior economist on a variety of monetary policy and financial market issues, he was private secretary to Mervyn King, and instigated, developed and implemented the Bank of England Quarterly Model (BEQM).
“I am very pleased and honoured to be appointed,” says Dale. “I look forward to contributing to the work of the Bank and the MPC at such a testing time for the economy and monetary policy.”
