Warwick and NTU launch a new Double Masters Degree Programme
Warwick has launched a new double masters degree programme in International Studies with Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. The NTU-Warwick Double Masters Degree Programme is a joint initiative from the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS), at the University of Warwick and the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) at NTU in Singapore.
The new programme will capitalise on both Schools’ strengths to address the importance of multiple and cross-disciplinary approaches to global issues. At the same time as broadening the scope, experience and expertise of students in international affairs, the degree will provide opportunities to expand their networks across countries and industries.
The full-time Masters course will allow students, in their first year, to study at the University of Warwick’s Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS) and in the second year, at RSIS in Singapore.
Professor Richard Higgott, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research in the Faculties of Arts and Social Science, and Professor of International Political Economy at Warwick, said, “Our global problems increasingly require global solutions and this new programme will help create a new generation of policy-makers and researchers who will have a truly international perspective of the key issues and problems facing us today.”
Addressing the growing interest in a global educational experience among today’s graduates and leaders, the new NTU-Warwick Double Masters Programme will equip professionals from both private sector and public office to understand and appreciate the dynamics and trajectory of contemporary developments today.
The new degree programme was launched at a conference in Singapore, co-organised by the RSIS Centre for Non-Traditional Security and the Warwick International Security Initiative (WISI) at the University of Warwick.
The conference on Non-Traditional Security, was held from 2-4 November and provided a platform to discuss and share European and Asian experiences on NTS issues, and allow for those involved to identify best practices to tackle challenges in this field.
Speaking at the official launch of the Programme, RSIS’ Dean, Ambassador Barry Desker, expressed the view that the joint Programme will not only provide a cutting-edge learning experience for students, but will also allow them to be immersed in “the latest thinking and networking opportunities from (the two Schools’) respective strategic positions at the centres of Asia-Pacific and Europe.”
Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr Zainul Abidin Rasheed said at the launch "The fusion of these two outstanding Asian and European universities makes obvious academic and business senses.
