Warwick Business School doctoral programme open day
Warwick Business School (WBS) is to hold an open day for those interested in starting the doctoral programme.
The event on the 4th February will give prospective students the opportunity to learn more about studying at the highly esteemed Business School.
Supervisors, current students and representatives from different Subject Groups across the School will be on hand at an informal lunch and there will be guided tours of WBS and the university campus.
The open day will start at 11.30am at the Scarman Road staff lounge and conclude at 3:30pm. Where is WBS?
There is also the PhD in Finance programme which started in 2007-08 for those students from a specialist finance Masters degree background.
Consistently ranked amongst the top in the world, the MPhil/PhD programme is also one of the largest in Europe with around 150 doctoral researchers from over 40 different countries.
In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, the School earned a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.95 placing it joint 5th out of a total of 90 business schools who took part. The University of Warwick is regularly ranked among the top ten UK universities, recognised as part of Britain's Ivy League, the Russell Group.
Professor Andrew Sturdy, Associate Dean (doctoral programme), says: "We aim to provide an environment in which our researchers can flourish. As a doctoral researcher at WBS you can expect ideas, rigorous critical enquiry, international perspectives and practical relevance to shape your experience and your work.
"In addition to your own research you will have the opportunity to collaborate with recognised experts in their field producing leading research, participating in seminars and conferences, and contributing to teaching within the school."
The comprehensive research training programme is recognised by the Economic and Social Research Council and a number of scholarships and bursaries are also available.
Derek Condon, a current doctoral researcher, said: "I'm funded by the ESRC and when I applied I was given considerable assistance by staff at WBS on how to complete the forms and get the necessary references from staff here. I've also had funding for 6 months overseas research in the Far East from the ESRC."
