The University of Warwick Formula Student Team treated the students of Priors Field Primary School in Kenilworth to a glimpse into the world of car engineering.

The 4^th year team is taking part in a national project to design, build, market and race a single seater racing car. This year’s team plans on entering a brand new car into the international competition at Silverstone in July, with ambitions of finishing in a Top 5 position.

In an effort to introduce youngsters to the many engineering schemes available through the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Best Program, the team of twelve engineering students took their prototype car for a spin around the Primary School. Academic Project Supervisor Dr Steve Maggs commented on the day, “The pupils watched a brief presentation as part of their assembly and then got a chance to see the car in the playground. They all seemed to be impressed with the car, and asked some interesting and challenging questions to the team. It’s amazing how much some pupils know about the workings of the car and even the engine, at such a young age.”

The team will continue their efforts to inspire young people in June, when visiting a Coventry Secondary school.
