Wheelchair athlete to pass the baton
Young athlete Ben Rowlings, who trains at Warwick's Wheelchair Racing Academy, is to feature in a nationwide 'Pass the baton' poster campaign from English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS), which celebrates the Paralympic Games and emphasises sport for all. The 16 year old junior athlete will appear on striking posters across nine London Underground stations and three in Newcastle.
Ben said:
I love the posters. Sport changed my life and has made me the person I am today. I can't wait for the next few years and possibly Rio! EFDS have been brilliant. I've been introduced to many sports via their Playground to Podium days. Also, I’ve had access to loads of different competitions, from beginner level upwards, until I was able to choose which one suited me best.
Job King, Disability Athletics Support Officer at England Athletics Ltd, said
I am proud to coach Ben at the University of Warwick Wheelchair Racing Academy. He’s come a long way in year – and clocked two more personal bests at the England Athletics Junior Championships recently, over 100m and 800m.
