The continued success and growth of WMG, at the University of Warwick, now means that it is seeking to hire at least 170 new recruits - a 30% expansion on its current workforce. The search is on to find: engineers, researchers, project managers, data analysts, software developers, and technicians. They will play key roles in a significant number of high tech research projects that have been developed in partnership with a range of companies and research, technology and manufacturing initiatives.

The areas of work will include:

• Intelligent and Autonomous Vehicles

• Sustainable Materials
• Remote Laser Welding
• Cyber Security
• Automation Systems
• Powertrain
• Experiential Engineering and Design

An academic department of the University of Warwick, WMG has around 500 people working in state-of-the-art facilities across seven dedicated research and education centres, on the Warwick campus, plus collaborative centres in seven countries. It has annual programme of £180m and is the lead partner in a range of projects that bring together global companies and small businesses (SMEs).

WMG’s Chairman Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya said:

“As we continue to grow and expand we are seeking individuals who thrive on a challenge and who aren’t afraid to defy conventional thinking. We are investing in, and creating, several new world-leading facilities to support these new projects. So we also need to invest in talented people to take these projects forward.”

The following two profiles on current WMG staff in similar roles to those being sought may be of help.

Liz McArdle joined WMG in February, this year, as Innovation Manager and as an alumnus, she was aware of the strong industrial focus that runs throughout the department. This was something, which attracted her to the role, as well as the focus on helping support SMEs to improve productivity in manufacturing.

Liz says: “Essentially I was attracted by the opportunity to make a real difference and add real value to UK manufacturing.”

“Within the SME team there is a very friendly atmosphere combined with a high level of energy. It goes without saying there is a lot of expertise, but there is also a drive to give value back to our clients across staff of all levels.”

Liz adds: “If you are passionate about making a difference, and creating a path between academia and industry, then WMG is perfect for you.”

Luke Millage, Precision Engineer has been at WMG for three months and it was the state-of-the-art facilities and capabilities that first attracted him.

Luke says: “The scope for learning and progression is limitless here and there is a network of genuinely helpful people who want to encourage professional development.”

But the best thing according to Luke is the diversity. “There are people from all sorts of industrial backgrounds, and it’s great to be surrounded by people who are so passionate about what they do.”
