To celebrate a new partnership with The Sunday Times/Peters Fraser + Dunlop Young Writer of the Year Award, the University of Warwick has launched the freeflow Festival.

Taking place on Wednesday 29th November 2017, the freeflow Festival is a day packed full of events across campus featuring some of the best names in the literary world including Owen Sheers, Sarah Moss, Natalie Haynes, and Jess Green. In addition, fresh from the Glastonbury stage and a five star run at the Edinburgh Fringe, the poets, rappers, musicians and storytellers - Tongue Fu – will perform at The Assembly in Leamington Spa.

The festival will explore a mini kaleidoscope of written and spoken word, bringing together a host of inspirational thinkers, authors, journalists, readers, writers and performers to share what’s fresh, controversial and relevant today. Visitors will also be able to take part in and watch debates, presentations and workshops looking at writing in its many forms.

In addition to the public events, freeflow Festival will be hosting a number of free schools events for Year 10 pupils upwards. All events for the schools programme will take place in the Oculus building on central campus. Events include a ‘Behind the News’ workshop where students will take part in a hands on introduction to journalism and learn the tools of the trade from industry experts; a Video Games and Digital Narrative focusing on writing for the ever growing games industry; Shakespeare on Toast led by actor Ben Crystal – looking at the relevance and impact of Shakespeare’s plays in a modern world; and a Meet the author session with the award-winning Patrice Lawrence.

Festival curator, Jane Furze said: “The aim of freeflow Festival is to explore and provoke and to celebrate the vibrancy of language within and beyond the curriculum. We wanted to host a festival to highlight our collaboration with the Sunday Times/ Peter Fraser + Dunlop Young Writers Award and with the University of Warwick being passionate about encouraging and supporting emerging literary talent, we thought the freeflow Festival was the perfect opportunity celebrate this. We have a host of fantastic authors, editors, journalists and performers leading workshops, talks and sessions on the University campus, which will allow us to provide a thought-provoking, fun and lively day of events.”
