Printing Your Timetable
To gain greater flexibility in the printing out of timetable grids from a browser you can utilise the scaling potential offerred through the use of Adobe PDF technology. This gives you flexibility in scaling a grid to fint onto a single page, or if this is not possible, then some degree of control as to where the page breaks occur.
In order to do this you will need to install PDF Converter Pro 3.0 from the Warwick tree.
Figure 1
Once installed you can choose the PDF Converter as though it were a printer by clicking on the ScanSoft PDF Create! Icon in the print dialogue box.
Figure 2
In your browser navigate to the timetable grid that you want to print and then choose Print Preview from the File menu. If the page count is already 1 of 1 then you can just print the grid.
Figure 3
If the grid occupies more than one page then you can set a scale value to shrink it, as illustrated in the figure below. Before doing this you should look closely at the grid to see which orientation, portrait or landscape, it more naturally fits.
Figure 4
This should dispaly a dialogue box similar to the one in the top left of the figure above. Ensure that the margins are set to a low value (typlically less than 10mm) and that the paper size is set to A4. Choose the better page orientation as described above, thebn click on the Printer... button which will opena new dialogue box, on top of the first, which should look like the one in the top right of Figure 4 above.
Ensure that ScanSoftPDF Create! is the name in the drop down list, the click the Properties... button. A third (and final!) dialogue box will open as shown in the bottom right of Figure 4. Here you can set a scale value. This will vary depending on how much of the grid "overhangs" the page. A small overhang may require a scaling of around 90%, a much larger overhang could require 60%. The aim is to find the largest possible scale value that will accomplish what you want and may require several trial and error iterations to achieve.
Once you have the desired scale factor then you can "print" the document. This will prompt you to enter the name of the PDF file to be created. Give it a meaningful name, and make sure you remember in which directory you have saved it.
Open the saved file in Adobe Reader and print.
