Vevox
Vevox is a personal response system which enables staff to create engaging sessions through live polling, quizzes, and Q&A. Staff create their session through the Vevox dashboard while students use the unique session ID to connect via smartphone, tablet or laptop.
Why use Vevox?
- It is fun to use and supports active learning
- Anonymous participation removes fear of judgement and increases participation
- Helps tutors to gauge comprehension and identify gaps in students' knowledge
Warwick has a site license for Vevox so you can access features that are not available on a free account, e.g. Q&A moderation, and star rating, text and number polls.
Students do not need to have a Vevox account or license to join a session. They connect to a session with the Vevox app, via vevox.app, or in Microsoft Teams.
Log in to Vevox
Vevox accounts are available for staff and postgraduate research students. Vevox uses Single Sign-On (SSO) so you can log in with your Warwick username and password.
- Go to http://warwickuni.vevox.com/Link opens in a new window.
- Click Login with SSO.
- Enter your University of Warwick email address using the format u1234567@live.warwick.ac.uk and click Next.
- Enter your University of Warwick password and click Sign in.
- Complete the two-factor authenticationLink opens in a new window step if prompted.
- On first access to Vevox, you will be asked to accept or reject the release of your name and email address to Vevox. Accept this step.
- You will now be signed in to Vevox and taken to your dashboard.

How to create a session
- Log in to your dashboard athttp://warwickuni.vevox.com/.
- ClickCreate session.
- Give your session a unique name.
- ClickCreate.
Once you have added content to your session and you are ready to start, don't forget to clickStart session.
How students join a session
- ClickIn the Vevox dashboard, click Start session to make the session available for students to join.
- Share your screen with students and clickPresent fullscreento display the joining instructions.
- Students should go to vevox.app on their own devices and enter the 9-digit session ID, or alternatively scan the QR code.
You can review and update the status of your session in the Vevox dashboard by hovering over the session title and 9-digit session ID at the top of the screen. You can also view how many participants have joined the session. Vevox allows a maximum of 5,000 participants per session.
Polls
Polls are individual questions that can be posed to students during a session to check understanding, or gather feedback or opinions.

Question types
Click on each question type in the table below for more information.
Question type | Description |
Multichoice | Participants select one or more items from a list of choices |
Wordcloud | Displays responses in a cluster of words to form an image. The more popular the response, the bigger and bolder the word appears |
Text | Allow participants to enter a text-based response of up to 2,000 characters |
Ranking | Participants either rank the order of choices as per their preference, or rank the choices in the correct order |
Numeric | Participants enter any number within a range that you specify |
Rating | A generic 5-star rating scale |
XY plot | Show the relationship between two sets of data on a scatter plot |
Pin on image | Participants drop up to 9 pins on an image |
Pin on choice image | Plot your multichoice options as numbers on an image |
LaTex polling | Include mathematical or scientific formula and expressions in the questions you create |
Quiz
Quizzesare essentially a series of polls where you have specified a correct answer for each. Please note correct answerscannotbe submitted for rating, word cloud, and XY plot questions.
Q&A
Q&Aallows participants to submit questions, comments and feedback as well as 'upvote' those submitted by others so you can gauge public opinion. Enable anonymous posting for increased participation.
Surveys
Surveysare a series of polls which can be run asynchronously as opposed to in a live session. You might use this to gather feedback, opinions, or (pre-)check knowledge. Students do not see responses from their peers.
Self-paced quizzes
Self-paced quizzesare essentially surveys with a correct answer set up for each question. Self-paced quizzes can be completed in the student's own time and provide an opportunity for the student to get instant feedback.
Vevox allows you to view and download the data captured during your sessions. Please watch this video for an overview of Vevox analytics and data:
The data tab in a Vevox session dashboard offers the following functionalities:
Share
Create a public link so you can share the session data. Others with the link will be able to view, but not edit or download the data. If you have shared the link with someone and you disable the link again, they won't be able to view the data anymore.
Download data report
Downloads all response data from the session into a CSV file.
Download as image
Some of the response data of a session is automatically visualised by Vevox. Click to download the image file for individual questions.
Clear all data
Clears all data from the session. You can then use this session again, for example with another cohort. Please note this cannot be reversed.
Students do not need to enter a session ID to take part in Vevox activities within MS Teams, nor do they require use of an additional device.
You can add Vevox to:
The Vevox session must be created in the Vevox dashboard and at least one person must be invited to the Teams meeting before the side panel can be added.
Add a Vevox session in the side panel of a Teams meeting or call
- In your Teams calendar, double-click on the meeting you want to add the Vevox side panel to.
- Click on the plusicon at the top to add a new tab.
- SelectVevox. If it is not displayed, you can search for it using theSearchbar in the top right corner.
- ClickAdd.
- Enter the 9-digitVevox session IDof the session that you want to connect this Teams meeting to.
- ClickSave.

Add the Vevox tab to a Teams channel or chat
- Click on the plusicon in the centre top of your channel or chat window.
- SelectVevoxin the 'Add a tab' window. If it is not displayed, you can search for it using theSearchbar in the top right corner.
- Enter the 9-digitVevox session IDof the session that you want to connect this tab to.
- Choose whether toPost to the channel about this tabby ticking/unticking the box.
- ClickSave.

How to get the PowerPoint add-in
The process to install the PowerPoint add-in onto your device depends on what type of device you have: a University managed device or a non-University managed device. If you are not sure whether your device is University managed or not, please follow thisGuidance - Am I using an IT Services managed computer?
University managed machines
- Make sure you are connected to either the University's Wifi orVPN.
- Open the Software Centre on your device.
- Click onApplications.
- Search for and selectVevox PowerPoint plugin.
- ClickInstall.
- Double-click on the file once it is fully downloaded to execute it.
Unmanaged machines
- Open a browser and go to vevox.com
- Click onPowerPoint voting and pollingunderWhy Vevox.
- Click onDownload the add-in.
- Click onDownload here.
- Double-click on the file once it is fully downloaded to execute it.
Creating and Running Polls in PowerPoint
- Log in to the Vevox session in PowerPoint.
- Create a new poll in the PowerPoint add-in. You cannot 'import' polls that already exist in the Vevox session because they were created in the dashboard. For Vevox polls that are to be used in PowerPoint, they have to be created in PowerPoint.
- If you want, you canadd a count-down clock to your polls in PowerPoint.
- If your poll questions include scoring, you canadd a leaderboard in PowerPoint.
- Present your polls with the PowerPoint add-in.
- If something goes wrong while polling, you canclear all results and poll again.
- Use the analysis slide if you want to reveal the results of a poll later or if you want to rerun a poll and compare both results.What are analysis slides?explains the details.
