Careers Showcase for Health and Medical Sciences, Life Sciences and Chemistry
About:
On Wednesday 23 October the inaugural Careers Showcase event took place on Gibbet Hill, created in response to student feedback and requests for more industry-specific employer events for Chemistry, Life Sciences and Health and Medical careers.
Over 230 students attended the event and were really engaged with the employers and breakout sessions. Keynote speaker, Pete Charlton, delivered an insightful presentation into the realities of pharmaceutical and biotech careers, and this was followed by panel sessions on 'Lab versus Non-Lab Careers' and 'Skills Development for a Career in Life Sciences, Chemistry and Medicine'.
Highlights:
- 230+ students attended
- Great feedback from students and employers. The event was established as a direct response to students telling us the employers they wanted to see were not represented at the previously existing careers fair
- The collaboration between a number of colleagues from different services and expertise representing Warwick - a multi-department effort!
Student feedback:
"Thank you for making this event happen! I found the Showcase really helpful and insightful with lots of different organisations that I wouldn't have had the opportunity to speak to otherwise."
Employer feedback:
"I had a great time at the University of Warwick today, discussing industry insights and career development with students at the University of Warwick - School of Life Sciences on behalf of Macrogen Europe. Thank you to Jo Pearson and Marion Patel for organizing the event. I look forward to future opportunities to share my experiences."
“Thank you so much for inviting us to participate – it was a really well-organised event and was brill to speak to so many engaging, enthusiastic students. They all seem very driven so that’s a huge credit to all of the career activities / discussions available to them at the university. We’d be more than happy to participate again.”
