Born in Hertfordshire, Pearson studied painting at Goldsmith's College from 1947 - 52. In 1953 he went to work with Ray Finch at Winchcombe, from where he went to the Royal Doulton Pottery Works in Lambeth. In 1955 he became David Leach's assistant and in 1961 opened the Quay Pottery in Aylesford. Since 1980 his studio has been in Islington. he teaches at Camberwell School of Art and Medway College of Art and Design.
