Standing Stone by George Wagstaffe

George Wagstaffe is a sculptor, based in Coventry. He studied at Coventry College of Art in the late 1950s and in 1957 won the Scuplture Prize at the 'Young Contemporaries' exhibition at the ICA in London. His work 'Naiad' was commissioned by Coventry City Council in 1960 and he subsequently received commissions for ecclesiastical works and a sculpture for the Shell Chemical Headquarters in Chester. Standing Stone was one of a series of drawings which Wagstaffe later developed as sculptures.
