East Looe Church, Cornwall 1 by Gerald Clements

East Looe Church, Cornwall 1 by Gerald Clements

Rather than make a literal image from one viewpoint of St Mary's church in Looe, Clements selected facades of different parts of the building and assembled them in a sort of collage for this print. Both the shapes and the details of the various walls and windows have been simplified and depicted in a non-realistic colour range of ochre, orange and brown in place of the grey stonework of the medieval original.

It is no longer used as a church, since Clements' visit it has been converted into apartments.
