Janne Laine

Born 1970

Janne Laine was born in Tampere, Finland. He studied at the Tampere School of Art and Media. He is a printmaker, his favourite technique being Heliogravure, in which a photograph is transferred to and etched into the printing plate. His work has won many awards and is held in private and public collections in Finland and internationally.

The starting point of Janne Laine’s work is a photograph more often than not of a landscape with which he is not familiar. He travels widely to find his subject and his locations have included Iceland, South Africa, New York and China. His use of colour is restrained and often reflects the colour of the terrain that he finds in the land. His works are filled with atmosphere and light, produced via the careful polishing of areas of the plate prior to printing.
