Cotswold Barn by Laurence Roche
|
In Cotswold Barn, Laurence Roche evokes a cold, isolated and uninhabited environment. He uses a palette of black and white paint which is applied in various ways: the sky is rendered as a flat, even paint layer, the foreground with a speckled paint effect. This creates a two-dimensional composition, in which the barn appears rather like a cut-out. This stylised approach adds to the unnatural, lifeless feel of this image whilst evoking an atmosphere of mystery.
