British artist who works in Clay. Lives and works in Paris and London.
Matthew Raw studied for a BA in Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics at the University of Brighton before going on to do a Masters in Ceramics and Glass at the Royal College of Art. In 2014 he won the Jerwood Makers award and in 2015 he won a prestigious residency at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
He draws the inspiration for his work from urban surroundings, historical facades and murals that have survived the continuous redevelopment of the city scape. He is interested in expanding the potential of ceramics going beyond the traditional. His works tell stories of people and places through the use of texture, colour and language in clay.
He has produced many commissions and has exhibited his work across the UK and internationally.
