Monro studied at Chelsea School of Art from 1958-61. In 1969 he was given an Arts Council award and included in the exhibition 'Pop Art Re-assessed' at the Hayward Gallery. In the 1970s he produced predominantly figurative work using fibre-glass to create life-size figures. In 1972 his 20 foot high fibre-glass 'King Kong' was set up in the Bull Ring, Birmingham as part of the Peter Stuyvesant sponsored Sculpture for Public Places Scheme.
