Woods in Spring by Zena Flax

Woods in Spring by Zena Flax

Gift to the University from Leighton House Museum, 2018

This evocative study of spring arriving to transform the bare branches of trees with the first bright green leaves is an early work done before Flax began to specialise in graphic art and illustration. The free, gestural style creates a lively impression of contrasts of light and shade, of movement and the rough, underlying terrain of the woodland.
