Oral Health Week campaign at nursery: complete chart, return it to nursery and receive a certificate and a new toothbrush

Runs from Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 20.

Good oral health is a requirement of the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. It is essential that from a young age teeth are protected and good habits instilled to protect a child from toothache and infection.

Oral health is important, even with baby teeth.

This is because children’s baby teeth:

  • Help them to bite and chew
  • Support speech and language development
  • Help them to feel confident when they smile
  • Make space for and guide adult teeth

Your child will be learning lots of important messages about caring for their teeth and having a healthy diet.

Each day, during Oral health Week, your child will be taking in part in activities devised as a fun way to learn about looking after their teeth.

A tooth brushing chart will be provided for you to use with your child. Encourage them to brush their teeth twice a day, before going to bed and on one other occasion during the day. All children who complete the chart and return it to nursery will receive a certificate and a new toothbrush as a prize.

You can download an app Brush DJ which is a toothbrushing app that plays 2 minutes of music to make toothbrushing more fun!

We hope Oral Health Wek will be informative for you and your child and help lead to life-long healthy teeth. We look forward to hearing your feed-back. Why not email us photographs of your child carrying out some of the key messages of oral health week.
