What does the course cover?

  • Students will learn the theory behind the Active Bystander technique and practical skills to apply the technique to a wide range of scenarios.
  • The course deals with topics of sexual harassment, sexism and misogyny, and other harmful behaviours such as homophobia, transphobia and racism. We understand the impact engaging with these topics can have on our students. We deal with these topics sensitively, supporting our students throughout the course.
  • Students will gain the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to safely and effectively challenge harmful behaviours they witness in the future.

What is the format?

This term we are offering the course in two formats:

  • Option 1: Four 2-hour sessions in-person, with no pre-reading tasks.
  • Option 2: Four 1-hour sessions in-person, with pre-reading tasks equating to a total of four hours self-study.

Both options require a total of 8 hours commitment.

There will be 15 - 30 students per group. The course is delivered in a workshop style and full participation is expected. There is no assessment or coursework associated with this course, though there are opportunities for further development upon completion of the course.

Is my participation eligible for the Warwick Award?
