Digital Learning Tools to Build Confidence

Dgital learning continues to evolve in ways that empower students to take ownership of their education and build confidence throughout their academic journey.

Interactive Platforms for Personalised Learning

Tools like Moodle and H5P offer students dynamic and personalised ways to engage with course content. These platforms support self-paced learning, formative assessment, and active participation, giving students the opportunity to test their understanding, receive instant feedback, and revisit materials as needed. This flexibility helps students feel more in control of their learning and better prepared for assessments.

Feedback Without the Pressure

Digital Learning is working with IDG to launch a pilot of Feedback Fruits, a platform designed to support academic writing and referencing. Students can submit formative work and receive automated feedback on grammar, structure, and citation practices - without the pressure of being formally assessed.

Feedback Fruits encourages students to develop strong academic habits and clear writing skills in a supportive, low-stakes environment. It advises students rather than doing the work for them, promoting genuine skill development and academic integrity. As students build these foundational skills, staff are able to focus their feedback on more advanced skills and the academic content of the work.

AI Support for Study Skills

The AI Toolkit for Social Sciences and the Arts offers guidance in areas such as writing, critical thinking and employability. These resources are especially helpful for students who may feel overwhelmed or unsure about navigating university-level expectations on the appropriate use of AI. By integrating these tools into the digital learning environment, it creates inclusive pathways for students to reflect on their progress, build autonomy, and feel supported in their learning.

Students as Co-Creators

Empowerment also means giving students a voice in shaping their learning experiences. Our recent Ideathon project was a great success, offering students the chance to collaborate across disciplines, solve real-world problems, and bring their ideas to life. Initiatives like this foster confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging - key ingredients for a thriving academic community.
