Sharing EchoVideo content
Once your Lecture Capture has finished recording and processing, it is stored in EchoVideo under the module or course it relates to. Universal Capture (Personal) recordings you make on your own computer are also published to EchoVideo either under the associated module section or in your private Library.
There are several methods to share EchoVideo content and your choice should depend on what the recordings relate to and where you want to share them.
In this guide:

Sharing via Moodle
EchoVideo Lecture Capture and Universal Capture (Personal) media can be shared to Moodle in the three ways described below.
Do not use the URL Moodle resource to share links to EchoVideo as they will not provide the necessary authentication for users to be able to access them.
Use this option when you want to link to a whole list of recordings for a particular section of EchoVideo. Note that only one Lecture Capture block can be added to each Moodle course.
The Lecture Capture block links to a single section of EchoVideo. Your Moodle course may already have the Lecture Capture (EchoVideo) block in the block drawer on the right-hand side. If automated lecture capture has been set up, this block will link to the relevant module’s recordings.
In ad hoc Moodle courses, you will need to know the name of the section that the relevant lecture captures were saved in and manually select the EchoVideo section to link to. You can check the section names in the Courses tab of EchoVideo.
You will need to have an instructor user role for the section (module/course) in EchoVideo in order to link to the recordings. If you requested the recordings, then you should be an Instructor. If you are unsure, please email lecturecapture@warwick.ac.uk.
How to add the Lecture Capture block
- Enable Edit mode.
- Click the < Open block drawer button if it is not already open.
- Click the Add a block at the top of the block drawer.
- Choose Lecture Capture (EchoVideo) from the list. NB. If you do not see it in the list, it is because the block has already been added.
- The block will appear in the block drawer.
- Click on the Lecture Capture (EchoVideo) block to check that it links to your module or ad hoc space in EchoVideo and displays the correct recordings.
How to change the Lecture Capture block link
Occasionally you might find that the Lecture Capture block links to the wrong list of recordings (class list) or none at all. In this case you will need to manually link it to the correct section.
- Click the Lecture Capture block.
- If the block already links to an incorrect section:
- Click the UNLINK LMS COURSE button in the top left-hand corner.
- You will be prompted to confirm the action. Click OK.
- Click the browser's back button to go back to Moodle.
- Click the Lecture Capture block again.
- In Step 1: Choose or create a course in Echo360:
- Choose the term that the required section belongs to.
- Choose the course name.
- In Step 2: Choose or create a section in your course:
- Choose the section.
- In Step 3: Select what you want students to see:
- Select Section home.
- Click the Connect button.
Sharing outside of Moodle
While we recommend Moodle as the primary way to access EchoVideo content, it can also be shared via URL or embedded on other websites and platforms such as Sitebuilder, social media or email. These links can be completely public i.e. accessible to anyone with the link, or private and accessible only to other Warwick users by requiring them to log in to EchoVideo.
Warwick users will need to access an EchoVideo block via Moodle or have a separate EchoVideo login in order to be able to access private videos.
Share media via links and embed codes
Only the owner of individual media can create links to share with other users. However we do have a workaround available for departments who need certain staff to be able to create links on behalf of the media owners. We ask that you get approval from the module leader or Head of Department and contact us at with the module code or section name.
Visit Echo360's guide on Generating an Access Link and Embed Code for Media for how to create:
We recommend that where possible links and embed codes are public even if they are only intended to be viewed by Warwick staff/students on Sitebuilder as this avoids authentication issues.
Share media with individuals
It is also possible to share only with specific named individuals. Those users will find your content in their Library without requiring a link.
Re-using EchoVideo content
EchoVideo media can be published to more than one section. i.e. it can be shared to multiple places for different cohorts of students. Each group of students will be viewing the same copy of the video.
You could make a copy of a video and publish it to a new section if it is important to you that each cohort views their own copy. If you have multiple of these then we recommend cloning a whole section.
Use this option if you have a small number of recordings you wish to share with other module groups e.g. students on a different module or the same module but a different cohort.
For example, you have a video of a lecture that you recorded for module AB101 last year but you want to share it with students taking the module this year. If you publish it to this year's section it will appear in the list of recordings for this year's AB101 as well as last year's.
To share to a new class, go to the media Details > Publishing > Classes.
Follow the instructions in the Scribe below for the full process.
Using collections
Collections in EchoVideo are similar to playlists; a collection of related videos which may not belong to the same course or module.
Collections are designed to be collaborative spaces where people are brought together to view, post, share and work with the media in the collection.
They can be used for:
- reusing material across modules/courses and adding flexibility for who adds content
- collating teaching and help materials
- sharing media with others and, depending on permissions, allowing those people to reuse your content.
Collections have members who have varying permissions depending on their access level.
EchoVideo's Collections - Overview
Anyone with instructor permissions on EchoVideo can create a collection.
See EchoVideo's guide on Creating a collection.
Creating a collection will automatically make you the Collection Manager.
