Personal Equipment such as Hoists
Where equipment is installed that is not the University’s own, such as a personal hoist, it is imperative that all parties understand what their responsibilities are in relation to the safe operation and maintenance of such equipment.
Responsibility for the suitability of the hoist will fall to the individual to check that it meets their own needs. This may be done in consultation with other persons or specialist services. Should they be already provided for use and be deemed unsuitable by the individual, this must be brought to the attention of the Accommodation team.
Where they have been installed by the University, the University will retain responsibility to ensure that they are examined as required.
Where they have been installed on behalf of the individual, but are not owned by the University, the individual will retain responsibility for their condition and must ensure that they are taken out of use should they show signs of damage and seek repair/replacement as necessary.
