Considerations - Question 11

Ergonomic issues, taking into consideration the user(s) of the equipment

If the equipment is to be used outside regularly, consideration must be paid to protecting the worker from the elements. The first consideration must be to use lifting equipment that has a suitable cab rather than the provision of outdoor clothing for the individual.

The controls of the lifting equipment must be suitable for the individual – they should be obvious and not do something unexpected. All controls and instruction manual must be in a language that the operator understands.

If the operator is to spend a long time in the cab of the lifting equipment, the cab should be designed to be comfortable for long periods of use and this must be considered before purchase or hire.
