- The information management policies were first discussed by the Senate. The IMPF was put together partially in response to an ICO audit identifying the need to create a comprehensive suite of information management policies that applied to all engaged at the University.
- The policies were also designed to support Regulation 31 and before reaching Senate had been approved by University Information Management Committee (UIMC) and University Information Management Executive Committee (UIMEC).

- The Senate approved the information management policies (amendments to Regulation 31 were also approved at this time).

15 September 2020 |
- The IMPF is published on the Security and Information Management (SIM) webpages. This is the official launch of the IMPF at the University.

2022 |
- Minor amendments made to the policies to change the term Chief Information and Digital Officer (CIDO) to Chief Information and Transformation Officer (CITO).

05 September 2024 |
- ‘At a glance’ summary of the policies removed.
- New landing page for the IMPF created which breaks down the framework into policies, standards, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and guidance.
- Search box added to the landing page for the IMPF and also to the policy page to allow search for terms within the framework.
- Glossary of Terms updated, and redundant terms removed.
- Top-level website section ‘IT Compliance’ renamed ‘Information Management Policy Framework’.

- IMST 01: Information Classification Standard published.
- IMST 03: Handling Information Standard published.
- IG05: Information Classification Policy withdrawn (replaced by IMST 01).
- IS03: Clear Desk Safe Working Policy withdrawn (replaced by IMST 01).
- IS04: Information Handling Policy withdrawn (replaced by IMST 03).
- IMSOP 02: Handling Information Paper and Digital withdrawn (replaced by IMST 03).
- IMSOP 07: Classification and Restriction Criteria withdrawn (to be revised in line with IMST 01 and republished).
