WAS Phase 1 Evaluation

WAS Phase 1 Evaluation

Phase 1 Aims:

Once the contract had been signed with UniWise it was decided to take a 'hands on' approach with the first phase. It was agreed to start using the system straight away with a small selection of departments to try out in the current academic year 2021/22:

  • A range of different department types
  • A range of different assessment and exam types

The aim was for the departments to help test the training and support model to deliver the summer exams and assessments. They also helped to develop how we use the system, what configurations to use and what guidance and policy to implement.

Live assessments delivered in Phase 1:

Phase 1 exams delivered

Key findings of Phase 1:

  • The system works excellently for online exams and has improved functionality over AEP
  • Departments were able to administer their own exams in the system
  • The system provides enhanced marking tools
  • The system is robust and designed to handle large numbers of students and exams

Aims

Learning

Get to know the system across different assessment and department types

WAS functionality not currently sufficient for coursework to be delivered successfully - late submissions, penalty points etc

Understand the support and training model needed to onboard departments

‘Training’ from UniWise was more like a demonstration. This is a complex system needs hands on training.

Tease out any issues with the system and our processes

Many issues found – some worked round, some are still issues logged with UniWise

Understand the long-term support needed

Details of support and training needed learned from Phase 1 to be prepared for Phase 2

Get staff and student feedback on the experience

Staff very happy to give full feedback. Student feedback good
