The co-founder of a successful University of Warwick spin out company has been elected to the British Academy.

Nick Chater, who cofounded Decision Technology in 2002, is also Professor of Behavioural Science at Warwick Business School. He is one of 38 new Fellows of the British Academy, in recognition of their outstanding contributions to research.

Decision Technology applies behavioural science to commercial and policy challenges. It helps organisations gain insight into the decision-making processes of its stakeholders to inform approaches to key business issues such as customer service strategy, pricing policy, brand management, and regulation.

Professor Chater said: “I’m delighted to be a Fellow of the British Academy and to see the importance of Behavioural Science recognised in this way.”

Decision Technology started out in premises at Warwick Science Park, but has since expanded to a team of 20 and moved to its current offices in London. Current clients included leading retailers, banks, utility providers, as well as government departments and the European Commission.

Alongside its consultancy work, Decision Technology also applies its analysis of decision-making to football analytsis and prediction. Its analysis is used by football columnist Danny Finkelstein in his weekly column, The Fink Tank, in the Times.
