Warwick Ventures to boost Universitys software success
Researchers developing innovative software at the University of Warwick can get extra help developing commercial routes for their products from Warwick Ventures, the University’s technology commercialisation arm.
Warwick Ventures’ new Business Development Manager, Brendan Spillane, has over 20 years’ experience in software sales and business development. His mission at Warwick Ventures is to increase the amount of University-developed software licenced to industry .
Brendan joins Warwick Ventures from Isis Innovation, the University of Oxford’s technology transfer company, where he was a Senior Technology Transfer Manager with a particular remit for software projects.
“Many academics are developing software with enormous commercial potential, and we want to help make sure that potential is achieved,” says Brendan. “Some of these programs are complex and sophisticated, others might be far simpler. I have seen elsewhere that a spreadsheet can attract interest from pharmaceutical and insurance companies around the world, realising hundreds of thousands of pounds in licencing income.
“We need to find out as much as we can about the programs and ideas our academics are developing so we can be in the best position to help them achieve commercial success.”
