CAL GlobalPAD GlobalTIES logoThe University of Warwick’s Centre for Applied Linguistics (CAL) is marketing successfully a number of online courses designed to support students and professionals whose first language is not English.

Recently its GlobalTIES course was featured in the UK Trade and Investment’s Education (English Language) Prospectus 2013, produced to showcase the range of educational and training expertise that the UK can offer to support English language training overseas. GlobalTIES is an online resource, developed in partnership with the British Council, Japan, which aims to help people develop the skills needed to work in today’s globalised world.

Professor Helen Spencer-Oatey, Director of GlobalTIES, says: “We’re delighted that UKTI Education has selected GlobalTIES to help promote UK excellence in education and skills around the world. It’s testimony to its distinctiveness that it has been chosen against stiff competition.”

The Centre is also currently promoting GlobalPAD, a suite of online courses and resources in academic English, intercultural communication, teaching English, and acquiring academic or workplace research skills.

Laura Lane, business development manager at Warwick Ventures, who has been supporting the centre in developing commercial outlets for these resources, says: “The resources that CAL is offering are really well put together and offer people the opportunity to learn using ‘real world’ scenarios and examples. We’re particularly pleased to see the GlobalTIES course featured by UK Trade & Investment as this is a great endorsement of Warwick’s expertise in this area.”
