Edit quiz properties

The quiz properties determine how the quiz works and general settings – for example, randomising the order of questions and choices, and what feedback you show to participants when they submit a quiz.

  1. Browse to your quiz page.

  2. Go to Edit > Edit quizbuilder page:

The SiteBuilder 'Edit' menu, with the 'Edit quizbuilder page' option highlighted

Alternatively, select the Edit this quiz button at the top of the page:

The 'Edit quiz' button at the top of a quiz page

  3. On the Edit quiz screen, under Modify the quiz, select Quiz properties:

The 'Modify the quiz' menu, with the 'Quiz properties' option highlighted

  4. You see the Edit your quiz properties screen:

The 'Edit your quiz properties' screen

  5. Choose whether to Make visitors identify a piece of text or audio to prove that they are human. This helps to block spam submissions, but note that it will make the quiz inaccessible to users in countries where Google products are blocked, such as China. You can make this required Only when not signed in, Always required or Never required.

  6. If you want to limit responses to one per signed-in user, select the Logged in users can submit just one copy of this quiz checkbox.

  7. Select This quiz is currently closed to manually close the quiz, hiding the questions and preventing new submissions.

  8. For informal quizzes where you do not intend to review or analyse participants' submissions, select Do not save user's answers.

  9. If you want to make answers more difficult to share (for example, to reduce collusion between participants), you can Randomise the order of the questions or Randomise the order of the choices within questions.

  10. Select User must answer all questions before feedback is displayed to show feedback to participants only after they complete and submit the quiz.

  11. To show a random subset of questions, selec the Show only the following number of the n questions randomly checkbox and enter a number in the box. This can make collusion more difficult, but you need a relatively large set of questions before a random subset becomes useful.

  12. To direct participants to another page after they submit the quiz, select the Go to this URL after quiz is completed checkbox and enter the target page's address in the text box.

  13. Under What kind of feedback to users, choose one of the following options:

    • Give user feedback – show which questions they answered correctly and incorrectly, and their overall score.

    • Show user's score – if you select this option, the participant does not see which questions they answered correctly, nor feedback for each question, but they receive their score. For example, 16/20.

    • None – in some cases, you may wish to wait until everyone has taken the quiz before revealing scores. This option is useful when you want to tell participants their scores simultaneously.

  14. In the Show the following message box, enter a message to show your participants after they submit a quiz.

  15. In the What text should your users see when this quiz is closed? box, enter the HTML for the message you want visitors to see if the quiz is closed.

  16. When you've finished editing the quiz properties, select Publish to return to the Edit quiz screen.
