Q) Tell us about your role?

A) I’m an apprentice gardener at Warwick university, in this role we undertake many tasks such as boarder maintenance, vegetation control and gritting. No day is the same which keeps me motivated and enthusiastic. I really like my role as I hold a role in a team, and everyone must help and try there best to achieve every task at a high standard.

Q) What is the most challenging thing about Gardening?

A) The most challenging thing in the role is the continuous research you have to put in to learn about different techniques and different plants and their specification

Q) What is the biggest achievement?

A) My biggest achievement so far is completing the pa1 and pa6 for pesticides, so I can now spray independently.

Q) How did you discover this apprenticeship?

A) I discovered this apprenticeship through the government website. I then applied and sent over my cv. I then received an interview and achieved the role.

Q) Who’s your inspiration?

A) My inspiration would be my dad as he got me into gardening as I used to help him with his business.

Q) Where do you see your self in the future?

A) I see myself with my own gardening business and a van doing private work.

Q) What advice do you for someone looking to the gardening industry?

A) I would say don’t be afraid of learning as there is endless knowledge to be found in all sorts of areas. Make sure you get stuck in as then role eventually becomes second nature. Make sure you ask plenty of questions.
