Apprenticeships for Warwick Staff

Celebrating Apprenticeships at Warwick

Recently, our apprentices who have completed their apprenticeship programme in the last 12 months attended a celebration event. It was amazing to hear about their achievements. What is truly remarkable is that all of them completed their apprenticeship during the pandemic!

The Importance of Apprenticeships and Workplace Development

Warwick nursery has embedded apprenticeships as part of their workforce development and succession planning. Debbie Castle, Nursery Manager, tells us why apprenticeships are so important

“We have found having apprentices in the nursery a true asset; it is good to have people eager to learn our trade, they bring fresh ideas back from their day in college and it also offers my qualified practitioners a CPD opportunity to line manage someone, something they might not otherwise have an opportunity to do. I also have the satisfaction of knowing that, as an outstanding setting, we are giving them the best possible experience to enhance their training.”

There are many amazing apprenticeship stories here at Warwick and we are very proud of their achievements and the impact they are having at our University.

About our Programmes

There are over 700 programmes available, from level 2 GSCE level right up to level 7 Master level. These include a growing number of high quality degree apprenticeships covering a broad range of sectors, plus a wide range of job specialisms subjects across the digital, computer science, career development/IAG, engineering, leadership sectors, amongst others. Many of the programmes can lead to nationally recognised qualifications from organisations such as the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM), the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (CIPD) and many more. Email staffapprenticeships@warwick.ac.uk to attend our Information event on 30 June 2022.

Apprenticeship Levy Transfer Scheme

This month marks the 3 year anniversary of the West Midlands Combined Authority levy transfer scheme. It is virtually impossible for any organisation to spend the full apprenticeship levy fund amount and we have used over £1 million of our surplus levy to fund apprenticeships in local SMEs. This money has helped 31 local businesses and covered the costs of 44 apprenticeships.

Professor Stuart Croft said:

“We are delighted to support apprenticeships in our region by committing £280,000 to the Apprenticeship Levy Transfer Fund. By doing so Warwick will be investing in the future of our region by providing skills and training in the growth areas of science, technology, engineering and medicine and will open up apprenticeship opportunities to SMEs and wider sections of our community.”

Staff Apprenticeship Information Event – 30 June

Existing members of staff and line managers are invited to an online event on Thursday 30 June, 10.00 – 10.45. This will provide information on how to use the apprenticeship levy to cover their learning and development programme costs. We’ll also be joined by Giles Holmes from our Warwick degree apprentices team. Email staffapprenticeships@warwick.ac.uk to register.
