Planning for research is essential. Planning should include data management.

• I am writing a research proposal. What does a Data Management Plan contain?
• I am starting a research project. How should I manage my research data?
• What do I do with sensitive data?
• Where should I deposit my research data at the end of a project or publication?

This session focuses on the development and use of Data Management Plans (DMPs).

Research Data Management (RDM) is important for the success of a research project and is becoming increasingly important with major funding bodies, including RCUK, the Wellcome Trust and Horizon 2020. This session will build on the first one in this series (Research Data Management: The Essentials), but will focus on Data Management Planning. This will include what a plan needs to contain, a look at some sample DMPs from a selection of Research Councils and a demonstration of the Digital Curation Centre’s DMP Online service.

Who is it for?
Research Active Staff (research, academic or teaching terms and conditions of employment) and PhD students.

Session Objectives:
By the end of the session attendees will have gained a greater understanding of RDM and generic practises that go with this as well as learn how to create Data Management Plans for research projects and where to find help if needed.
