Research Data Management: The Essentials

(A collaboration between LDC, The Library and Student Careers & Skills)

Managing data can be complex. Doing it correctly from the start could save time and effort.

  • How much data would you lose if your laptop was stolen?
  • Would anyone understand your data if you shared it with them?
  • Do you know what your funder expects you to do with your research data?

Good Research Data Management (RDM) is important for the success of a research project and this has been highlighted by all the major funding bodies, including RCUK, the Wellcome Trust and Horizon 2020. This session will help you articulate your existing practices, plan good RDM strategies for projects and highlight where help is available if needed.

Who is it for?
Research Active Staff (RAS) on Research-focussed, Teaching-focussed and Research & Teaching contracts, and PhD students.

Session Objectives:
By the end of the session attendees will gain an understanding of RDM considerations through the research data lifecycle. They will learn about the creation of Data Management Plans for research projects and where to find help if needed.

Is there anything else I need to know?
