Crafting a Narrative CV: A Practical Workshop for Research Evaluation and Funding Applications

Aim of the Session:

This online workshop introduces researchers to the principles and purpose of narrative CVs as a tool for responsible research evaluation and funding applications. Participants will explore the UKRI Résumé for Research and Innovation (R4RI) framework and the CoARA principles, gaining practical experience in drafting narrative CVs that reflect a broad range of research contributions.

What Will I Learn?

Participants will be able to:

·Describe how Narrative CVs are structured and the range of contexts they are required for.

·Gain insights into the CoARA principles and qualitative measures of research evaluation, focusing on quality, openness, collaboration, and impact.

·Receive practical guidance and structured writing time to write their own Narrative CV.

·Engage in peer feedback to strengthen their final document.

·Leave with a draft CV and an action plan for further development.

Is It Right for Me?

This workshop is designed for researchers at all career stages, from any discipline, who are preparing for funding applications or research evaluation processes. . It will be particularly useful for those new to narrative CVs or looking to refine an existing draft. The workshop includes structured writing blocks to enable participants to write their narrative CV.

Less Useful If…

The session may be less useful for those seeking specialist, one-to-one advice or detailed feedback on an existing narrative CV draft. The focus is on providing structured guidance and timed writing sessions to help participants make meaningful progress on developing their narrative CV.
