What are the options for communicating your research in a digital environment? How is publishing evolving and how do you choose the most appropriate platform for your target audience?
To help researchers at Warwick negotiate this changing landscape, the Library has created a collection of online resources and webinars to help researchers make informed choices when planning and implementing a publication strategy.
This short webinar session is aimed at researchers who are thinking about publishing or who are starting to build a ‘portfolio’ of published work. It will encourage you to think about your own motivations for publishing, who your target audience(s) are and what you want to achieve by communicating your research. It will also offer practical tips and advice on how to take a strategic approach and how external drivers, such as funder requirements, Open Access policies and the REF, might influence where, when and how you publish your work.
Who is it for?
University of Warwick Research Active Staff (staff on Research-focussed, Teaching-focussed and Research and Teaching contracts) and Postgraduate Researchers.
Workshop enables Research Active Staff (RAS) to:
- Consider the importance of planning for publication and the benefits of taking a strategic approach
- Think about the audience(s) for your research and where, when and what to publish in order to reach them
- Identify external drivers which might influence your publication decisions
- Start to develop your own publishing strategy
This webinar will provide particpants with an opportunity to discuss the issues covered in the Publishing in a Digital Environment Moodle course and consider how these impact on their own research practices. In order to fully participate you will be encouraged to engage with the relevant section(s) of the online course prior to the webinar. A link to any recommended reading will be circulated at least one week in advance.
