Alumni Stories: Andrea Zuliani
Hi I’m Andrea. I did a Bachelor’s degree in History and Politics at the University of Warwick from 2019 to 2022. I then completed an MSc in International History at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Sociology and Social Research at the University of Trento.
While studying at Warwick I came across the Intercultural Training and I was curious of what it meant. I then saw that they offer different types of workshops on Teamwork, Awareness and Competence. I decided to attend the Teamwork workshop which teaches you to effectively communicate when you work in multicultural teams. Since I had a lot of group work as part of my courses with students from all over the world, I thought this will be very helpful to avoid misunderstandings with team mates. What stayed with me from the workshop is how differently people can approach the same task, not just in terms of opinions, but in how they communicate, organise ideas, and work as a group. At the time, it helped me navigate group work more thoughtfully, especially in an international classroom.
As I’ve continued my studies across different institutions and countries, I’ve become increasingly aware of how these differences shape academic discussions and collaboration. I now pay more attention to how others contribute, and I try to adapt my own approach to create more balanced and productive conversations without sacrificing my own identity and values. I am super happy that I decided to attend the workshops and would absolutely recommend it to anyone studying at Warwick uni. The workshop didn’t just help in that moment, it gave me a way of thinking about collaboration that has continued to develop throughout my studies.
