Warwick Audio Technologies wins an award in a major regional competition for its work pioneering ultra thin and lightweight loudspeakers
Warwick Audio Technologies was presented with the Most Innovative Product Award during the 2009 Lord Stafford Award ceremony, held at Gaydon Heritage Motor Museum in November 2009. The loudspeaker technology being developed by the company has advantages for a wide range of products where space or weight is at a premium, such as inside cars or aircraft.

Fingerprint Technology Beats World’s Toughest Tests…Including 100s of Builders’ Thumbs
Technology developed by the University of Warwick that can identify partial, distorted, scratched, smudged, or otherwise warped fingerprints in just a few seconds has just scored top marks in the world’s two toughest technical fingerprint tests. The technology is also being rapidly taken up by the UK building trade who are delighted to have fingerprint technology which can cope with the often worn and ravaged builders’ thumbprints.

The Research for Innovation, Speculation and Creativity (RISC) programme - Invitations for Applicants
The purpose of the RISC scheme is for potentially paradigm-changing projects in Health Services and Public Health Research. RISC provides an opportunity for new and radical research proposals that could lead to a step-change in the management and care of patients. RISC awards are intended particularly for speculative, novel proposals that are unlikely to gain support during traditional peer review processes. For RISC competition 3, awards of up to £200,000 will be made.

Joint Cambridge / Warwick Spin-out, CMOS Sensors Limited - LAUNCHED!
Cambridge CMOS Sensors Limited (CCMOS) has been launched with initial funding from Cambridge Enterprise Seed Funds. The company is a spin-out from the Electrical Division of the University of Cambridge Department of Engineering and has in-licensed technology from the University of Warwick.

Warwick Effect Polymers Limited Attracts £1m Investment
Warwick Effect Polymers (WEP) has raised a further £1m of investment from new and existing venture capitalists and private investors to progress development and commercialization of its proprietary PolyPEG® and GlycoPol™ technologies. Together with income from its eight ongoing evaluation agreements with global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, the new funds will be used by WEP to progress further development of its technology platforms and to secure further agreements, licences to its patents, and manufacturing contracts.

A programme which aims to provide science, engineering, technology, and high-growth companies, with the tools that they need to develop and to raise investment, is set to be the basis of similar programmes across the country in 2009. The Connect InvoRed investment readiness programme, run by Connect Midlands on behalf of East Midlands Development Agency (emda), Advantage West Midlands (AWM) and Business Link West Midlands, has been identified by the Department For Business and Regulatory Reform (BERR) as a best practice model for access to finance.
