Allinea joins forces on European HPC project

AllineaThe University of Warwick spin out company Allinea is joining a major European consortium to develop high performance computing technologies.

Allinea, which was founded by computer scientists from the Universities of Warwick and Oxford, is a leading supplier of tools for high performance computing (HPC).

It has joined with a group of HPC companies, and HPC research centres to develop a European Technology Platform (ETP). The aim is to strengthen European competitiveness in HPC, which is seen as a key capability for future research and innovation.

High performance computing is needed for complex operations such as modelling natural phenomena, optimising energy resources, researching novel materials or shortening engineering development cycles.

The ETP will be an industry led forum that will propose a Strategic Research Agenda taking advantage of European industry strengths to increase the value created in Europe from future HPC systems. It is seen as an important step in encouraging and strengthening the position of the European HPC Industry.

Allinea was set up with assistance from Warwick Ventures, the University of Warwick’s technology commercialisation arm. Warwick Ventures’ Business Development Manager, Shum Prakash says: “We are delighted that Allinea has achieved this success and look forward to watching this company’s progress as it continues to expand and develop.”

Mike Fish, CEO of Allinea, says: “This is an exciting opportunity for Allinea and we are looking forward to taking this project forward. Allinea is a fast-growing company and we are grateful for the support from Warwick Ventures that has helped us achieve some significant milestones in our development.”

This month Allinea has also been named a Red Herring Global Top 100 Company. This prestigious award scheme recognises the 100 most promising private technology ventures from around the world. Allinea was recognised for its “vision, drive and innovation” in developing a successful entrepreneurial venture.
