Withdrawal - Funding and Finance Advice

If you are considering suspending, transferring course or withdrawing from the University it is essential that you speak to your Personal Tutor/Supervisor in the first instance. They will be able to offer advice on the options available and the formal procedures you need to follow.

If you take a period of absence from your studies or permanently withdraw from the University there are various implications for your student funding and below are some general guidelines.

Please be aware, if it has been agreed you can retrospectively withdraw your last date attendance will be the date agreed with your department. It is this date which will be used to calculate your liability for tuition fees and your eligibility for student support. If and when your retrospective withdrawal has been agreed with your department it is essential that you contact Student Funding Support for further advice.

Undergraduate Students

Tuition Fees

Contact the Student Finance Office on 024 7652 8471 or email studentfees@warwick.ac.uk for further advice on the tuition fees you will be charged.

Student Loans and Grants

  • The Student Loans Company will request repayment of any grants and maintenance loan for periods that you are not fully enrolled and in attendance during the academic year. If you have a grant or loan overpayment, they will take this from future years' entitlements.
  • When you return to study, if your funding has been reduced because of an overpayment, and this has put you in financial hardship, contact Student Funding Support or your administration body who may be able to help.
  • If you restart on a different course or at a different institution or take a period of temporary withdrawal, this could have implications on subsequent years' funding - most students are only entitled to receive funding for the length of their course plus one additional year.
  • The University will inform the Student Loans Company of your withdrawal but you may wish to contact them yourself to ensure you receive no further funding or if you need advice on future years' funding.

NHS Bursary

If you are in receipt of NHS funding please contact the NHS Medical Student Bursary team or the NHS Social Work Bursary team to find out how withdrawing will affect you.

ITT Bursary

If you permanently or temporarily withdraw from your course you will be entitled to be paid the bursary for each month up to the month in which you withdraw. You will only be entitled to receive the bursary payment for the month you withdraw if you were in attendance on the 1st of that month. If you receive an overpayment of your bursary, the debt will be transferred to your University account and you will be required to repay the amount immediately.

Warwick Undergraduate Scholarships and Bursaries

  • If you are eligible for any scholarships or bursaries from Warwick you will be entitled to funding for the periods you are in attendance and are fully enrolled at the University.
  • If you have received an instalment of funding since your date of withdrawal, you may be asked to repay it. If this is the case, we will write to you at your home address.
  • If you are taking a period of temporary withdrawal, your funding will resume when you return to your course, providing you have enrolled and still fulfil all the eligibility criteria.
