Preparation for Second Tutorial Questionnaire

Instructions

Before I interview you again I'd like you to rate your language proficiency again and also provide some details of how you are getting on in your assignments and exams. Please do take a moment to enter the information below. 
We will discuss the answers in more detail in the interview.

Each of the questions 19) ~ 23) below has five choices 1-5. The choice that you choose also includes all lower numbered options, e.g. if you choose "3" it also includes 1 and 2, "5" includes 1-4 etc...)

1) I can understand enough to be able to meet needs of a concrete type provided speech is clearly and slowly articulated.

2) I can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.

3) I can understand the information content of the majority of recorded or broadcast material on topics of personal interest delivered in clear standard speech. I can deal with standard spoken language, but will have problems in noisy circumstances

4) I can understand extended speech and lectures and follow even complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar.

5) I can understand extended speech even when it is not clearly structured and when relationships are only implied and not signalled explicitly. I can understand television programmes and films without too much effort.

2) I can understand texts that consist mainly of high frequency everyday or job-related language

3) I can read with a large degree of independence, adapting style and speed of reading to different texts and purposes. I have a broad active reading vocabulary, but may experience some difficulty with low frequency idioms

4) I can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in my field of specialisation

5) I can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and recognise implicit meaning

2) I can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst in an area where the language is spoken and can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

4) I can interact with a degree of oral fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party

1) I can re-tell short written passages in a simple fashion using the wording and ordering of the original text and can tell a story or describe something in a simple list of points.

2) I can produce simple connected text on topics, which are familiar or of personal interest and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

3) I can exchange, check and confirm accumulated factual information on familiar routine and non-routine matters within my field with some confidence and can describe how to do something, giving detailed instructions

4) I can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

5) I can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices

1) I have limited command of the language but it is sufficient in most familiar situations provided the language is simple and clear

2) I can ‘get by’ in everyday situations independently but would need additional language support to be successful in communication at university

3) I have sufficient command of the language to deal with most familiar situations, but will often require repetition and make many mistakes

4) I can follow academic level instruction and participate in academic education, including both coursework and student life.
