Visa type to choose during online course registration

Section 1: Purpose and Contents of this page:


This page has been created to give guidance for the type of visa would should select during online course registration

Please ensure you have carefully read the guidance provided for your situation BEFORE you contact Student Immigration.


Visa type / status you currently hold:





















Section 2: You applied for this visa outside of the UK using a CAS issued by Warwick and you have only received a Student Visa travel vignette (sticker on your passport) which is valid for 30 or 90 days


Instructions Visa type you should select

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport
  • Current Temporary Travel Vignette
  • UKVI decision letter (this is the letter which confirms your full visa length and where to collect your BRP card)
  • Entry stamp to the UK - if you have already arrived in the UK

If you have submitted your Student visa application outside of the UK and have not yet received your visa, you should wait until you received your visa.

If our BRP team have already received your BRP card (because you used the University's ACL code), you will see this visa type as a pre-selected default visa type for you when you complete course registration (from 13 September 2022, we will start sending emails to notify you the receipt of your BRP with a link for you to book a collection appointment).

(Note: Your 'Visa Number' is the red number on the top right corner of your visa).

Warwick Student Visa Temporary Travel Visa

 

Section 3: You applied for a student visa from overseas using a Warwick CAS and now have already been granted a Student visa which is longer than 90 days. This is either because you are a EU national OR your course is shorter than 6 months OR you have already arrived in the UK and collected your BRP card from a post office.

If you are an non-EU student, your BRP card will state 'Leave to Enter'.

  • Current Valid Passport
  • UKVI email confirmation that you have been granted a student visa (this email confirms Warwick is your visa sponsor)
  • A .pdf downloaded from the GOV website and contains your 'share code'.
  • Evidence of travel to the UK including travel reservation/ flight ticket - if you have already arrived in the UK

Section 4: You applied for a student visa in the UK using a CAS issued by Warwick AND you have received your visa


Instructions Visa type you should select

Your BRP card will have 'leave to remain' on it.

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current Valid Passport
  • BRP card (front and back) ------ (pre sessional english students - upload your visa in passport)
  • UKVI email confirmation that you have been granted a student visa (this is optional for non-EU students but mandatory for EU students)

OR

You have been granted an e-Visa (Electronic Visa) as you used IDV app to apply for a visa within the UK.

  • Provide the UKVI decision email (same email that confirms you are granted a visa)
  • A .pdf downloaded from the GOV website and contains your 'share code'.

Section 5: Starting course remotely is no longer allowed regardless of the reason


Instructions Visa type you should select

Starting the course remotely without a Student Visa (or before you obtain your Student Visa) was only allowed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. From 10 January 2022, the University has resumed face-to-face teaching and require all full time students to be based on campus. If for some reason you are not going to be able to travel to the UK before the 'latest course start date' (depending on your course, this is usually a few days or weeks after your official course start date as stated on your offer letter), then you will not be able to enrol. You can find your 'latest course start date' on your CAS.


Please check with your academic department or your admissions team to find out your options (you may be able to request a deferral, for example).

Section 6: You made a visa application in the UK but haven't received your visa /BRP yet


Instructions Visa type you should select

You may have applied for student visa to extend your current stay as a student OR you may be switching from another category. In both cases, you are likely to be allowed to start your study once we establish you have made an in time application, and that your previous visa does not prohibit study. However, if your current visa is a 'Graduate' route visa, or a 'high potential individual' visa, then please contact us urgently as you are NOT permitted to study until you receive your student visa.

Please be aware that in the case you have started your course however you visa is refused or rejected, you will be withdrawn from the course till you make a new visa application. If you current visa has expired when you received the refusal then you will most likely need to make a visa application from overseas (generally your home country or place of ordinary residence).

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current Valid Passport
  • Copy of your current or most recent visa
  • UKVI Document confirming application submission and your details (you can download this from the last page of your visa application form which has the "book an appointment button", it is at the bottom of the page. The 'date of application' should appear on the checklist).
    • OR you can provide the UKVI visa application payment confirmation, as long as it confirms your full name, application number and the date of application

Section 7: Asylum


Instructions Visa type you should select

Select this if you have made an application for Asylum but are still waiting for a decision.

Please be aware that you will be required to provide us with a Bail 201 Letter confirming there are no restriction for you to study.

If you are not sure, or do not have the Bail 201 letter then don't worry, we will check this out with the UKVI after you have completed course registration.

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Copy of your Passport (if you do not have copies of your passport then please upload your offer letter)
  • ARC card or UKVI letter confirming submission of Asylum application
  • Bail 201 Letter (if you have one)

Section 8: Refugee


Instructions Visa type you should select

It is usually a 5-year visa and you may be required to extend it.

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport (if you do not have passport then please upload your offer letter)
  • BRP (front and Back) (if waiting for BRP then upload the decision letter confirming visa is granted)
Refugee - Limited Leave to Remain

Section 9: Student Dependant or any Dependant Visa


Instructions Visa type you should select

Choose this option if you are a dependant (spouse, child, partner) of a

  • Dependant of a student visa holder
  • Tier 1/2/5 visa holder
  • Skilled Worker visa holder
  • Start-Up Visa or any other business related visa holder
  • Spouse / Family member of British National
     

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport
  • BRP (front and back)
  • If you are waiting for BRP card then upload the decision letter confirming visa is granted

OR

You have been granted an e-Visa (Electronic Visa) as you used IDV app to apply for a visa within the UK

  • Provide the UKVI decision email (same email that confirms you are granted a visa)
  • A .pdf downloaded from the GOV website and contains your 'share code'.

Dependant Visa (Any)

Section 10: EUSS Family Permit


Instructions Visa type you should select

Choose this option only if you have a 6-month EUSS Family permit that you applied from outside of the UK

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport
  • 6-month EUSS Family Permit visa
  • Entry stamp to the UK (or evidence of travel such as flight ticket) - if you have already arrived in the UK
EU family permit / EUSS family permit

Section 11: EU Settlement Scheme - Pre-settled Status


Instructions Visa type your should select

Select this option if you current hold a pre-settled status, even if you are soon to be qualified for settled status.

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport or EU ID card
  • A .pdf downloaded from the GOV website and contains your 'share code'.
  • Confirmation of pre-settled status granted (email - this is optional)

Section 12: EU Settlement Scheme - Settled Status


Instructions Visa type you should select

Do no choose options indefinite leave to remain or settlement.

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport
  • A .pdf downloaded from the GOV website and contains your 'share code'.

Section 13: Exempt or Diplomat or a family member of a diplomat


Instructions Visa type you should select

Select this option if you are exempt from immigration control.

You are usually exempt if you are an eligible family member of a Diplomat, or, if you are on a collaborative research course such as Monash, Cotutelle or Eutopia, and you will not come to the UK in the current year of enrolment.

Check on GOV website to see who else is exempt from immigration control.

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport
  • Visa or UKVI letter confirming you are exempt from immigration control, OR, written confirmation you are on an eligible collaborative research course
Exemptions (e.g Diplomats)

Section 14: Any Investor, Business development or Talent Visa (T1, or Tier 1)


Instructions Visa type you should select

Choose this option if you hold any of the following visa:

  • Any Tier 1 visa
  • Innovator visa
  • Start up visa
  • Global talent visa
  • Entrepreneur visa
  • Investor visa

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport
  • BRP (front and Back)
  • If waiting for BRP then upload the decision letter confirming visa granted

OR

You have been granted an e-Visa (Electronic Visa) as you used IDV app to apply for a visa within the UK, you can provide a 'share code' instead of a copy of your visa.

Investor, Business development or Talent Visa (T1)

Section 15: Any Tier 2 General / Skilled Worker


Instructions Visa type your should select

Choose this visa type if you hold any of the following visas:

  • Skilled worker visa (or Tier 2 work visa)
  • Health and Care Worker visa
  • Intra-company visas (or Tier 2 intra-company transfer)
  • Minister of Religion visa (T2)
  • Sportsperson visa (T2)

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport
  • BRP (front and Back)
  • If waiting for BRP then upload the decision letter confirming visa granted

OR

You have been granted an e-Visa (Electronic Visa) as you used IDV app to apply for a visa within the UK

  • A .pdf downloaded from the GOV website and contains your 'share code'.

Long Term Work Visa (T2)

Section 16: Non Warwick sponsored Student Visa


Instructions Visa type you should select

If you current hold a visa for another institution and do not intend to switch visa because you are coming to Warwick as a Visiting student for a short period (up to 1 year), or, if you are undertaking a part time course at Warwick, or, your course is part of a research collaboration between your home university and Warwick.

You are required to complete an online contact form to make us aware first.

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport
  • BRP (front and Back)
  • Confirmation from you current student visa sponsoring institution that they are allowing you to undertake studies at Warwick
Non Warwick Student Visa (Including TIER 4)

Please note that in all other cases, you cannot enrol at Warwick using a Student visa sponsored by another UK institution and will need to request a CAS from Warwick and obtain a Student Visa using a Warwick CAS.

Section 17: Indefinite Leave to Remain / Indefinite Leave to Enter/ Settled


Instructions Visa type you should select

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport (if you do not have a current passport then please upload your offer letter)
  • Visa and entry stamp (if granted Indefinite leave to Enter)
  • BRP (front and Back) (If waiting for BRP then upload the decision letter confirming visa granted)

OR

You have been granted an e-Visa (Electronic Visa) as you used IDV app to apply for a visa within the UK

  • A .pdf downloaded from the GOV website and contains your 'share code'.

* How to request a Share code to provide to University (if you have an e-Visa):

Settled in the UK

Section 18: TIER 5 / T5 / Government Authorised Exchange / Temporary worker


Instructions Visa type you should select

Choose this visa type if you hold any of the following visas:

  • Charity Worker visa (T5)
  • Creative and sporting visa (T5)
  • Government Authorised Exchange visa (T5)
  • International Agreement Worker visa (T5)
  • Religious Worker visa (T5)
  • Seasonal Worker visa (T5)
  • Youth Mobility Scheme visa (T5)
  • Global Business Mobility route visa
  • Any other types of temporary worker visa or Tier 5 visa

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport
  • BRP (front and Back) (if waiting for BRP then upload the decision letter confirming visa granted)

OR

You have been granted an e-Visa (Electronic Visa) as you used IDV app to apply for a visa within the UK

  • A .pdf downloaded from the GOV website and contains your 'share code'.

Short Term Work Visa (T5)

Section 19: Standard Visit Visa


Instructions Visa type you should select

Choose this If you have got a visit visa to study a course of less than 6 months or your stay is of less than 6 months, including if you applied in your home country OR granted at the port of entry to the UK.

If you are granted visit visa at the UK port of entry then for visa dates please put start date as the date you entered the UK and the expiry date would be 6 month from then.

Short term study visa - this is a visa that is valid between 6-11 months long and is granted for you to study an English language course. It is likely to be sponsored by another institution and not likely to permit your study at Warwick.

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport
  • Visa vignette (if you applied for your visa overseas before you travel) *
  • Entry stamp *

* If you are a non-visa national or an EU/EEA/Swiss national, have not applied for a visa before you travel, and have entered the UK via the e-Gate, then you will not have a visa vignette or entry stamp. Please upload a copy of any of the following instead:

    • Flight Ticket (e-ticket is acceptable)
    • Boarding Pass
    • Bus / Ferry Ticket
Standard Visitor Visa

Section 20: Other visa types


Instructions Visa type you should select

Choose this visa type if you hold any of the following visas:

  • British National Overseas (BNO visa - including the 6-month visa issued outside of the rules)
  • UK Ancestry visa (passport is optional if you hold this visa)
  • Frontier Worker permit (EU national only)
  • Discretionary leave
  • Humanitarian Protection
  • Right of Abode - ‘certificate of entitlement’. (This has to be in your current valid passport, University cannot enrol if it is on expired passport)
  • Graduate Route visa (full time study on a degree level course or above is not permitted)
  • Any visa granted under Ukraine Scheme
  • Any other time limited visa not listed elsewhere

Documents you should upload during online registration:

  • Current valid Passport (if you have one; if not, upload a copy of your offer letter)
  • Copy of Visa / Immigration Permission / Letter confirming right to remain in the UK, or,
  • A .pdf downloaded from the GOV website and contains your 'share code'.
