Pre-University Summer School course studied: A Taste of Economics and Finance in 2024
What encouraged you to choose to join the Warwick Summer School?
My school was sent an invitation to join, and so I decided to explore further to know more about it and I decided that it would be a perfect fit for me this summer as I want to study economics and finance as my degree in university. Unfortunately, I had no prior experience of the subject as my school doesn’t offer it so I decided that it would help me understand more about economics and finance and be sure that it is what I want to study.
What skills and knowledge did you gained during the 10 days that you have found most beneficial?
I developed my teamwork skills during the skills sessions and became more knowledgeable in both economics and finance. I also gained an understanding about how the admissions process works at the University of Warwick and other UK universities.
Did you build any new friendships during your time on the summer school?
I made connections during the summer school both with kids who were in my flat and also in other flats. Also the Warwick student ambassador's were very friendly and helped a lot by answering my questions and telling us about their own experiences.
What was your highlight of taking part in Warwick Summer School?
I believe the academic highlight was the first lecture we had which was on behavioural economics. I enjoyed the way in which it was very interactive and the teaching was different from what I was used to in school. Despite never studying economics I was surprised by how much knowledge I had on the topic and how much questions I was able to give an answer to during the lecture.
What advice would you give to future students participating in the Warwick Summer School to get the most out of the programme?
My advice would be to try to disconnect from the world during the days of the summer school as it is a unique experience and people who come here are very lucky to have this opportunity so just have fun, enjoy, learn new things and make connections.
