Sustainable Sport Society Competition - Student Spotlight
All of us at the University of Warwick Ladies Hockey Club are absolutely thrilled to be the first ever winners of Climate Reality Warwick’s Sustainable Sport Society Competition. As soon as we heard about the competition, we knew that is was something we wanted to be a part of, as sustainability is a shared value amongst our members and the club as a whole.
Throughout the term, we found that it was relatively simple to choose greener alternatives wherever possible, and now having realized this, we will no doubt continue along these lines in the future. Our charity shop circle last term was a big hit and our vegan meals were great opportunities for team bonding, but our most exciting initiative was our collaboration with Positive Outlook, a sustainable UK-based active wear company. We are so fortunate to have been able to work with this upcoming small business and we are so thankful to all our members for getting involved.
Overall, being part of this competition has been an extremely rewarding experience and going on to win is a huge honor for us. We would like to say a big thank you to Climate Reality Warwick for organizing everything, as well as a huge congratulations to all the other participants. Despite being a primarily a hockey club, at UWLHC we take great pride in being involved with numerous other aspects from socials, to wellbeing, volunteering and now more than ever before, sustainability. We hope that this competition becomes a Warwick tradition, as we would love the chance be back next year to defend our title!
