Tree Felling on Campus

At Warwick we are committed to protecting and enhancing habitats across our campus, supporting a variety of species and achieving a minimum of 10% biodiversity net gain. Planting trees is one way of doing this, however equally important is to manage our existing trees so that they have the best chance to stay healthy and thrive.

Kelly Baker, Grounds and Gardens Manager said: "A tree survey carried out this year showed that some of our trees are suffering from pests and diseases such as Ash dieback and Phytophthora. Some of the infected trees have gone into rapid decline and have become hazardous, so will need to be removed. Also, in order to prevent these issues from spreading further, we need to remove some trees to protect the others which are not yet affected. We also have some trees which are either coming to the end of their natural life, or were originally planted too closely together and now need to be thinned out so that the remaining trees can live for longer."

For every tree we remove, we plant two trees or five metres of hedgerow.
