Repair Café

Bring in your small electricals, textiles, furniture and more to learn repair skills with fixers from the Warwick community.

As part of the event, you’ll be guided on how to spot faults, take items apart, and safely repair them with the support of our Warwick Repair Café volunteers. Sit side by side with our volunteers as they assess and repair your item to gain knowledge and confidence for your future repairs. Come ready to learn and have a go!

Everyone is welcome at this free event – even if you don’t have something to repair, you can come along to watch repairs in action, ask questions, or join a crafty activity. The Warwick Repair Café team offers advice and support on a wide range of items, helping to give your possessions a new lease of life.

All staff and students are welcome to attend the event and there will be complementary drinks on hand to keep everyone fully charged.

Please note that we cannot accept phones, laptops, bike, microwaves and toasters.

Volunteer with us!

Do you enjoy fixing things? Got skills in sewing, electronics, bikes, or general tinkering? The Warwick Repair Café is looking for staff and students to share their know-how and help others bring their belongings back to life.

We’re looking for staff and students with some experience in repair, crafting, or maintenance (no need to be a professional!). As a volunteer, you will be on hand at events to guide people through spotting faults, taking items apart safely, and giving treasured possessions a new lease of life.

Why volunteer?

  • Share your skills and inspire others to repair instead of replace
  • Help reduce waste and support a more sustainable campus community
  • Meet like-minded staff and students in a friendly, practical setting
  • Students will also earn points towards the Warwick Award

What you'll do?

As a Repair Café volunteer, you’ll work alongside others to:

  • Advise and support people in repairing their own items
  • Repair items on the day
  • Demonstrate safe techniques and good repair practice
  • Contribute to a welcoming and encouraging environment

Please note that you're expected to bring your own equipment.

Repair Café: October 21st

Our first Repair Café of the academic year took place on 21 October 2025, and it was a huge success. Staff, students and volunteers came together to repair, learn and reduce waste - we fixed 7 out of 8 items (an 87.5% success rate), from toasters to textiles.

Repair Cafés are a space where simple skills and friendly advice help items stay useful for longer. They show how small, practical actions-paired with community energy - make a big difference for the planet (and your wallet!).

We had a great turnout and excellent feedback from attendees:

Volunteers were super friendly and helpful - would definitely recommend to colleagues!

Fixing things with like minded people gives me such a satisfaction. Event organizers were very welcoming, met new people. Loved spending time, can't wait for the next event.
