Citizen science - MammalWeb

We are very pleased that earlier this year, the University of Warwick's Wellesbourne Innovation Campus was selected as a study siteLink opens in a new window for the National Hedgehog Monitoring Programme. This nationwide project is exploring the feasibility of using wildlife trail cameras to provide accurate population estimates for hedgehogs.

Throughout the month of July, 30 trail cameras across the entire Wellesbourne campus recorded everything that moved in front of them. Along with images from four other sites in Warwickshire, the hundreds of thousands of images of local wildlife are now awaiting volunteers on MammalWebLink opens in a new window to ID them.

During this workshop, we will provide an introduction to MammalWeb, which is a fun citizen science platform that allows nature lovers to contribute to a variety of important projects from the comfort of our homes, and we will put our ID skills to the test to see what kind of wildlife was spotted by the cameras at our Wellesbourne campus.

Please note, you do not need to be an expert on UK wildlife, as this workshop will give guidance on how to improve your species ID skills.

Open to all students and staff.

The activity requires a device with access to the Internet - please bring a laptop or a tablet with you (it is not ideal to do this on a mobile phone although still possible if you don't have access to anything else!).

This workshop will take place in the Ramphal Building on 14th January between 12:00-13:00, details will be sent to all registered attendees via email.
