Warwick Launches Coffee Cup Recycling Trial to Reduce Waste
A new initiative aimed at tackling waste on campus is now underway. The University of Warwick has partnered with Biffa to launch a Coffee Cup Recycling Trial, which officially began at the end of January 2025.
Special recycling stations have been installed at Café Nero in FAB, Café Nero in the Sports Hub, and Pret a Manger, providing students and staff with a convenient way to dispose of their used disposable cups responsibly. More locations are expected to be added soon.
“To ensure the success of the trial,” said Mike Kearley (Waste and Recycling Manager), “we ask the Warwick community to follow a few simple steps:
- Separate the lids from the cups before recycling.
- Dispose of only coffee cups—plastic bottles and other waste should not be included.
- Ensure cups are empty, with no leftover coffee or liquids.”
By following these guidelines, students and staff will contribute to the University’s ongoing efforts to reduce general waste and promote sustainability on campus.
If you have any questions about the trial, please don't hesitate to email wasteandrecycling@warwick.ac.uk or sustainability@warwick.ac.uk.
