Coventry Women
The University of Warwick Library have brought together accounts from across history and the present day to celebrate the importance of women in the evolution of our wonderful city.
Some of the media included in this exhibition has been borrowed from our rich collections at Warwick Modern Records Centre. The MRC is the main British repository for national archives of trade unions and employers' organisations, with strong collections relating to pressure groups, fringe political parties and transport. In addition to the online content included in this exhibition, our archives also hold a wide range of physical documents on Coventry Women and campaigns for gender equality during the 20th Century.
Faculty of Arts at Home - in the UK: Capturing Historical Experiences of Sanctuary
Tying in with our focus on Sanctuary throughout the month of June, Professor Alison Ribeiro de Menezes (Hispanic Studies, School of Modern Languages and Cultures) brings us this film exploring her work on the history of Chilean exiles who were brought over to the UK through assistance from World University Service.
Re/Making Home
How can we understand the experiences of Syrian refugees resettling in the West Midlands? This online art exhibition on the theme of Home includes visual artwork created by people from Coventry and the surrounding area who have lived experiences of sanctuary, including audio descriptions from the artists.
Everyone’s Coventry
Welcome to the online exhibition section of Everyone's Coventry, a collaborative project between the University of Warwick and Coventry College. The exhibition is a collection of work produced by young people seeking sanctuary in Coventry and attending English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses. They would like to share with you their memories of their countries of origin, their experiences of Coventry and the skills and talents they possess. For each piece, the young people have recorded an audio description.

Join us for a lively online discussion about the developments being made with Intelligent and Connected Vehicles, whether we can trust automated (or driverless) cars, how they might shape the city of the future, and how these technologies might transform our lives.

Faculty of Arts at Home - Digitalisation and Cinema Projection in the UK
Tying in with our focus on the idea of Invention throughout the month of May, Dr Richard Wallace (Film and Television Studies) brings us the film ‘Digitalisation and Cinema Projection in the UK’. Rick’s film explores his work on the AHRC funded ‘Projection Project’ and the history of film projection practices, reaching from the earliest days of cinema to the current digital revolution in film exhibition.
Ring Road Ring: A Sonic Investigation of the Coventry Ring Road
What does concrete sound like? And what can listening to the city tell us about the built environment and how it makes us feel? This interactive soundmap of the Coventry Ring Road draws upon field recordings made by Dr. Michael Pigott, and released as the album RING ROAD RING in 2020. Using contact microphones attached to the concrete support pylons to amplify the low-level vibrations pulsing through the megastructure, this is the Ring Road as you’ve never heard it. This soundmap enriches the album with photos, video and texts that explore some ideas about soundscapes, urban space, utopian thinking, psychogeography, and electromagnetism.
Folklorica - a new digital installation
Come and explore a free new augmented reality experience created in partnership with Warwick Arts Centre.
Folklorica by Edie Jo Murray will bring to life local legends, tall tales and folklore, materialising in real space what is normally confined to our imaginations.
Engaging with Coventry's TV Past
Our latest Faculty of Arts at Home film ties in with the Resonate Festival, the University of Warwick’s year-long programme of events for City of Culture, and its focus on Community throughout the month of July. Kat Pearson (PhD Student in Film and Television Studies) introduces her research into UK Cities of Culture and television, and the role that the television archive plays in placemaking. Kat discusses how she worked with the Media Archive for Central England’s collection of historic television to curate screenings of footage of Foleshill for community members, and to produce a film reel about Coventry’s architecture and public art for the Metropolis exhibition which opened in the city this month. She also discusses her role in the production of BBC4’s documentary ‘Coventry Cathedral: Building for New Britain’.
